DILI, 07 april 2022 (TATOLI) – Twenty-five Cuban special doctors express their contentment after serving a four-year mission as special doctors in Timor-Leste, at the National Hospital Guido Valadares (HNGV).
“Today, we have a farewell ceremony with these 25 Cuban special doctors. They have served a four-year mission as special doctors in Timor-Leste,” HNGV’s Clinical Director, Marcelino Coreia told reporters at the farewell ceremony, held at HNGV, in Dili, today.
Currently, HNGV has around 50 Timorese doctors, 30 Cuban special doctors, and 12 Chinese physicians.
Coreia said the 25 special doctors were made up of one gastroenterologist, one pediatrician, one pharmaceutical physician, one obstetrician, one internal medicine physician, one anesthesiologist, one endocrinologist, two neurologists, one biomedical doctor, four nephrologists, one instrumentalist doctor, one forensic doctor, one radiologist, one pathologist anatomy, one intensivist, one neonatologist, one general surgeon, one psychiatrist, and one dermatologist.
“They will keep working here at HNGV until the arrival of the new doctors from Cuba to replace their post,” he said.
The coordinator of the Cuban Doctors in Timor-Leste, Elba Cabrales Riquenes said that: “We are satisfied with our mission in Timor-Leste. We serve the People of Timor-Leste with our hearts and we saved many lives during our time in the country. We will miss Timor-Leste and we will also miss these beautiful Timorese people.”
“We want to thank the Director of the HNGV for all the support, which allowed Cuban doctors to share their experience and knowledge with the Timorese medical students. We also would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for all the support we received from our Timorese colleagues. Thank you for allowing us to be part of this great family during our time in Timor-Leste.
She said working in Timor-Leste has been a wonderful experience: “We are delighted with the generosity and kindness of the Timorese people. So, thank you for everything,” said Riquenes.
