DILI, 22 january 2023 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak in his Lunar New Year message said that the Chinese ethnic community in Timor-Leste has contributed significantly to the transformation of Timor-Leste.

“This is a special day that is celebrated not only in Timor-Leste but across many Chinese-speaking countries. On behalf of the Timor-Leste government and the Timorese people, I wish you all the best,” Ruak made the remarks at the Chinese New Year celebration, organized by the Chinese Timor Oan Community Commercial Association (ACCCTO), in Dili.

He said the Chinese community has lived in Timor-Leste for centuries and has contributed immensely to the nation’s economic growth. “In 50 or 100 years, the Chinese community will grow from strength to strength, which will definitely contribute to the national development.”

“We should be grateful to each and every Chinese ethnic community and appreciate what they have done so far,” he said.

Chinese Embassy representative in Dili, Xu Danyang said the Chinese community will continue to contribute to economic growth and social development. “Last year, China reopened its borders for trade and exchanges of goods.”

“This will create greater opportunities for trade and investment with Timor-Leste and other countries,” the Chinese Embassy representative said.

He encourages the Chinese community and the Timorese people to collaborate in various sectors to bring benefits to the Timorese people.
