DILI, 30 may 2023 (TATOLI)— The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, and his entourage left for South Korea for a state working visit to attend the Jeju Peace Forum.
Horta and his entourage left Nicolau Lobato Airpot on Tuesday by the AERO Dili flight.
During the Jeju Peace Forum, the international community will share the vision of peace in the world and seeks creative solutions to preserve peace through international cooperation.
President Horta will be the main speaker at Peace to talk about the issue of Peace and Prosperity.
“On Jeju Island, President Horta will participate in an official dinner hosted by the Governor of Jeju Province. On the sidelines of this visit, President Horta will also visit the SK E&’S Ltd and SK Forest headquarters. These are the only two companies that have invested in Timor-Leste. In addition, the President of the Republic will also meet with public and private institutions to explore opportunities in the formal and vocational education sector for East Timorese youth,” read the statement.
The Jeju Peace Forum started as a biennial meeting but was reorganized as an annual event in May 2011.
While on June 2, following the set schedule, Horta will attend a series of meetings including meeting the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol on June 2.
Horta will also accompany by a team from ANPM (National Petroleum and Mineral Agency) to further explore experiences and investment opportunities in carbon storage and capture projects at the Bayu-Undan oil field facilities.
“This working visit aims to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries and further explore new opportunities for economic cooperation in the future,” The statement said.
After visiting South Korea country, Horta was set to visit Singapore on june 4, to attend the 20th Summit (High-Level Conference) on Asian Security, which will take place from 02 to 4 June in Singapore.
Horta will be the only foreign Head of State to address the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sangri-La Dialogue on the ‘New Partnership for Security in Asia-Pacific’.
Horta will also hold a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Singapore, Dr. Ng Eng Hen, and other important entities, and participate in the Presidential Dinner hosted by the President of the Republic of Singapore, Halimah Yacoob.
Since May 2022, President José Ramos Horta has made state visits to Indonesia, Australia, Portugal, the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Singapore and working visits to Brazil, Qatar, and Azerbaijan.
Following the schedule, Horta and his entourage will return to Indonesia on June 5.
