DILI, 29 august 2024 (TATOLI) The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, has awarded the Medal of the Order of Timor-Leste to journalists Paulo Nogueira, Pedro Pereira, and Fernando Peixeiro from the Lusa news agency, Pedro Costa and Bento Rodrigues from SIC, António Pedro Valador from RTP, and Pedro Mesquita and José Luís Pinheiro from Rádio Renascença.
On thursday, Ramos Horta said in a press release that the work of these journalists ‘was fundamental in drawing attention to the resistance and suffering of the Timorese people’.
According to the same source, ‘the courageous journalists were the eyes and ears of the world during East Timor’s darkest hours. Their dedication to truth and justice amplified the voice of the people, and their stories helped galvanize international support for our cause. Today, “we honor not only their professional excellence but also their commitment to human rights and freedom”.
